Myths

Snake, Rat, Ox, Tiger

My name is Ural Sahin. Im a late joining International Student. I wasn't able to join our classes because of the huge time differences, (3-5 am). Factoring in my other classes I would get absolutely no sleep. On a different note, I picked this class because I have always weighed a little more on my rationalist side. I was hoping to find a different thought system, not necessarily based on science, horoscopes dwell exactly on that spectrum.

Rabbit, Snake, Dragon (Blog Post #2)

In the last meeting, we discussed the relationship between the rabbit and the moon. The moon does have a weird imprint on it that does look like a rabbit, but we also talked about the Jade Rabbit. The story goes that the jade emperor, an important figure in Chinese mythology, turned himself into a starving old man and begged for food from different animals.

The Chinese Zodiac—Dragon, Rat, Ox, and Tiger

Hello! My name is Edwin and I’m a third-year Art History major. I was born in 2000 and my Chinese zodiac sign is the Dragon. Reading through the personality traits associated with my zodiac sign was quite amusing since some of them were spot-on while others completely missed the mark. I definitely agree with the notion that dragons are idealists and perfectionists as I generally hold myself to a very high standard regardless of what I’m doing; however, I also do wonder how much of the latter is tied to genetics and/or to the environment in which I was brought up.

The Horse and The Ox

Hi everyone!
My name is Diego Nunez-Leon and I am a first-year Environmental Science major. I’m from Mid-City, Los Angeles though my parents are from Oaxaca, Mexico where a variety of animals are eaten depending on the city. I was born in 2002 so my Chinese Zodiac is the Horse.

Relation to the Rabbit and the Tiger--rat, ox, tiger

Hi, my name is Naana Boateng, and my zodiac sign is the Rabbit. While I was researching, i saw the myth of how the rabbit is related to the tiger which I thought was very interesting. Apparently, those who are tigers and rabbits tend to have a power struggle against each other, especially if there are romantic relationships involved. I can see this, as a rabbit is a timid and calm animal, whereas a tiger can be aggressive and overpowering.
